Children Digital Camera

Finding a children digital camera that can take the abuse at a reasonable cost can be an adventure. There are a few good choices that offer both things.

One of the first things to consider is your child's age and abilities. You want to ensure you find a model that matches the level of your child. For younger children, the simplest models that are durable may be the best solution.

If you have a child 3-5 years old,  Fisher Price has a model that is very robust and simple to use. Designed for children aged 3 years and it has some great features and is simple to operate. To learn more about the Fisher Price model you can go here: Fisher Price Digital Camera.

If your child is 7 years old or more, you may be able to move from up from the toy models to the entry level model of digital camera manufacturers. Keep the controls simple and make sure there is an auto focus and exposure mode. The very basic entry level model is less expensive than many of the models sold by toy makers.

Digital Camera Features: You can find many digital cameras with just the basic features you need for decent photos. Megapixels are not important unless you plan to make enlargements. For the normal size of snapshots (standard 4" X  6") you can get by with as little as 1 meg. You can get a very detailed 12 "X 18" print from 2- 3 megapixels. Most camera settings gives choices of standard display formats such as 640 x 480 or 2048 x 1536 (example for a 3 megapixel camera), so if you plan to print your photos, you can pick the highest setting and still get good prints up to 12"  X 18".

A 3x optical zoom covers 90% of photo shooting situations. The digital zoom setting is enhanced by electronics and has very poor quality and not worth using. The recommended distance of most flash (how close the flash work) is a good thing to consider, any over 10 feet is good.

It's always good to have both a viewfinder and LCD to view your photo area. If the device just has an LCD screen it can make it difficult to see and take pictures at the same time, especially in bright light. A viewfinder is often more convenient and allows for easier picture taking.

Other features to consider are the amount of internal memory (or memory card) that is available with the device. Most digital cameras can use a memory card for additional storage, but try and get at least 2 GB of total storage. Most Point and Shoot models have auto exposure and focus that can help even a novice get some good pictures. A rechargeable battery can save money but if it runs on regular batteries too that's even better for when you can't charge the battery.

Budgets and Prices: Toy digital camera models start at around $50 and go up to $150. Entry level  digital cameras by camera manufacturers can start as low as $30 and go as high as you want. But be careful of the lower priced units as they may be fragile and easy to break. As with all electronics, you spend more for the most popular brands and models.

About Accessories: An extra set of rechargeable batteries and extra memory cards are always  good. Some kind of protective case that can protect the digital camera is a good idea and can also provide extra space for spare batteries or memory cards.
