Kids Video CameraFinding the best kids video camera can be pretty easy for the younger child. Getting past the entry level becomes a bit more of challenge. Kids Video Cameras come in a range of features and budgets. There are several different brands and models of Kids Video Cameras. The first consideration probably should be age. The second most important feature on any kids video camera should be the ability to withstand punishment. As we all know, any toy will be dropped, dragged, left outside, or put through other torture tests. So the four main considerations on a Kid Video Camera are:
Ok, let's work from the youngest age and up. Kid Video Camera models are our recommendations by age, features, quality, and price. Most of the under $30 models we reviewed weren't really a good deal since they didn't hold up under duress or have enough features to hold interest. We started our round up at around $36, which is reasonable for the value. There are some Kids Video Camera models for as low as $20-25 but they are very limited and for another $10 you can get one that will last and provides some reasonably good videos. I'd say around fours old would be the youngest age for this type of toy. For
the younger kids, ages 4-8, the Vtech Kidizoom Camera is a great choice
for a kids video camera due to it's simplicity and toughness. It can
take still shots and videos and also has some great software for even
the younger kids. It's feature set is very basic but that's a good thing
in this age group. The control are easy to learn and use even for the
smallest hands. And the price is a pleasant surprise at about $36.00.
You can read more about it here: Vtech - Kidizoom Digital Camera The
next step up is also a Vtech model, Vtech Kidizoom Plus Digital
Camera, that
has more features and higher resolution. These Kids Video Cameras are tough
and come with photo editing, movies, music, and games. It has up to 2
megapixels for resolution and with a good size memory storage of 265
megs and so you really don't need to buy an additional memory card. The
only drawback is it is a little pricey at $90.00. But it does have a
great set of features and will take a beating. You can see more about
this kid video camera here: Vtech Kidizoom Plus Digital Camera My
first choice for the older kids (8 years and up) would be the Polaroid Pixie
CSA-00301S Kid Video Camera. It fits all the criteria
and has some great features and a good price. The cost is around $55 and it
comes with everything you will need. I would suggest getting a memory
card that is at least 1 Gig since the one that comes with it is only 16
megs. It's got full sound (some models don't), a flip out screen for
viewing and takes pretty good
videos for display on any computer. You can get more information here:
Polaroid Pixie CSA-00301S - Camcorder - 1.3 Mpix - supported memory: MMC, SD - flash card All of these Kids Video Cameras have many happy buyers as you will see by the favorable reviews. It's always a matter of cost versus value and I believe you'll find one that will be appropriate for each age group. And all seem to be pretty well made, so they'll resist the wear and tear any kid might put them through too. Don't Forget About Accessories: All of these kind of Kids Video Camera can eat batteries up pretty quick. I would definitely get rechargeable batteries if not included in package. And I would probably get a larger memory card if the memory that comes with the video camera is less than 512 megs, each minute of video can take up to x amount of space. Other than those two items, you should be good to go. |
